Ghanian and Anderlecht midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru, made a goal line clearance of a goal bound ball in the dying stage of a thrilling encounter with rival Oud-Hervelee Leuven in the Belgian league on Sunday.
The midfielder was shown the red card late on as he prevented the ball with his hand to go into the back of the net and was pretty decisive in how the game turned out.
The act popularly called ‘taking one for the club’ was what the midfielder did as he managed to save his team from defeat with Oud-Hervelee Leuven eventually losing the ensuing penalty.
After trailing 2 nil the Belgian giants came back into the game equalizing twice but would soon fizzle out with momentum after player, Michael Amir Murillo was sent off.
In bid to hang on to the draw at the final stages being under pressure
Under intense pressure and struggling to shut out their numerically-superior opponents, Majeed Ashimeru used his hand to prevent a goal-bound effort.
The Ghanaian was shown a straight red for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity with his hand deep into injury time, but he turned out to be the hero after Sory Kaba missed the resulting penalty, as the game ended 2-2.
Recall that now Atletico Madrid forward, Luis Suarez had also saved his national side deep into injury time with a point black save at the infamous World cup 2010 quater final clash between Uruguay and Ghana.
