An innocent tweet has suddenly escalated into heated words, which may eventually lead to litigation, between the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, and a tweep for allegedly maligning the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
Adejobi, who took to his official Twitter handle to announce a courtesy visit by the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to the IGP, may not have expected the clapbacks it got.
“Coutesy visit: Prince Dapo Abiodun mfr paid a courtesy visit on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, today at Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja,” he wrote.
The post elicited several reactions but one stood out!
A Twitter user, لاعب مهاجم, with the handle @cryptonews404 insinuated that the IGP is a corrupt officer.
“In an emergency situation, will he IGP be able to run 🏃♂️, jog, squart, bend? Anyways, I never see any corrupt person wey no get big belle,” he wrote.

The Force PRO, however, lectured the tweep to study the newly reconstituted Nigerian Police Force before drawing his conclusion.
“I think you need to study the present police institution under the IGPs leadership before you draw a conclusion. Usman Alkali Baba is never a corrupt man, so withdraw your statement. Or if we take it up with you, do you, do you have proof?” Adejobi responded.
Adejobi quickly added that there might be need to activate the Cybercrime Act.
“Maybe we should try and test the cybercrime Prohibition Act 2015 on someone here o. Also, he is fit to act as an IGP, and if you are more than 18 yr old, you should be able to know what is an IGP and his roles in policing, surely not to pursue or be jumping fences, still he does all as a leader. Be guided, guy,” he warned.
In response to a plea by a user to ignore لاعب مهاجم, the PRO explained that there is no anonymous online as the Nigerian police is well equipped to trace the identities of anyone online.

“Many here think they are untraceable. Very funny. I can give the details of every handle here, within 2 hours. But, we need to relate well with people to get close to them, and we should know that there are laws guiding our posts, publications, comments, etc, online.”
When Daniel🤡👀 (@daniell__w) dared the officer to trace him. “Sir please trace the state I am in currently 1st,then I’ll believe this cap,” he wrote.
“You commit cyberbullying or stalking, them i will tell your location by the time you are picked up. I dont waste my energy on a trial. We act when we need to act,” Adejobi cautioned.
The Cybercrime Prohibition Act 2015 provides an effective, unified and comprehensive legal, regulatory and institutional framework for the prohibition, prevention, detection, prosecution and punishment of cybercrimes in Nigeria.
This act also ensures the protection of critical national information infrastructure, and promotes cybersecurity and the protection of computer systems and networks, electronic communications, data and computer programs, intellectual property and privacy rights.
