Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, announced the development on Friday during a press conference ahead of the college’s 37th convocation ceremonies.
He explained that students who complete their clearance will receive scrolls containing their actual certificates on the convocation day, describing the policy as a progressive and reassuring step for graduates.
“Our students will get their certificates on that day of convocation. Gone are the days when the scroll is always empty. Our students will now go with their scroll with their certificates there,” Abdul said.
A total of 8,654 students will receive diplomas at the event scheduled for 20 November, with the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, serving as Special Guest of Honour.
Of the graduating class, 291 students finished with Distinction, 2,434 with Upper Credit, 4,403 with Lower Credit and 1,526 with Pass grades.
The best graduating student is Ani Faith of the Office Technology Management Department, with a remarkable CGPA of 3.9 out of 4.0.
As part of the pre-convocation activities, the Senate Minority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, will deliver the convocation lecture titled “Entrepreneurship Development in the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology for Job Creation and Economic Growth.”
The session will be chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
Abdul said the ideas generated from the lecture would represent the college’s contribution to President Bola Tinubu’s agenda on economic diversification and digital transformation.
The Rector also revealed that Fellowship Awards of Yaba College of Technology will be conferred on Senator Bamidele, Senator Solomon Olamilekan and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul-Samad Rabiu.
He described the awardees as distinguished Nigerians who have made outstanding contributions to education, governance and the nation’s economic landscape.
“These individuals embody leadership, innovation and service capable of inspiring our students to pursue excellence in technology and entrepreneurship,” he said.
Speaking on the Federal Government’s approval for YABATECH’s upgrade to a university, Abdul confirmed that while the process has commenced, no official timeline can be given for full implementation.
He added that the institution has fulfilled all necessary requirements, including presenting its case before the National Assembly, and boasts over 200 doctorate degree holders as well as adequate facilities.
