The bridge, a vital connection between Kano and neighboring states like Kaduna, Plateau, and Benue, gave way due to heavy rainfall, creating a hazardous situation that demands immediate attention.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said, “The bridge is critical for regional connectivity. In the interest of public safety, we have set up barricades, detours, and warning signs to redirect traffic and prevent accidents.”
Authorities from the Police Motor Traffic Division, Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Road and Traffic Agency, and Transport Union members are actively managing the situation on the ground to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent any mishaps near the collapsed site.
The police have cordoned off the area surrounding the Yaryasa Bridge collapse, warning motorists to avoid the danger zone and cooperate with traffic officers in following designated alternative routes.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged road users to remain patient and prioritize safety when navigating through the affected areas.
