Delta Police warns POS operators against handling transactions over ₦500,000, cautioning that it can lead to involvement in criminal activity

The warning, delivered by SP. Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, emphasised the risks associated with such large transactions, particularly in relation to ransom payments from kidnappers.

In a recent statement, SP Edafe explained that POS operators risk becoming unwitting tools in the hands of criminals if they continue to facilitate large money transfers.

He narrated a case where a POS operator received ₦4,000,000 in ransom from kidnappers and made a mere ₦40,000 profit from the transaction.

“My message to POS operators is simple: any transaction above ₦500,000 can get you into serious trouble. Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. It must be traced back to you,” Edafe warned.

He further explained that even if operators believe they are simply conducting business, the legal ramifications could be severe, potentially leading to time in prison before a lawyer could intervene.

@freelanews SP. Bright Edafe, Police Public relations officer, Delta State Police Command, warns POS operators against transaction above N500k My message to POS operators, transaction above 500k can get you into trouble. Dont be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. It must be traced to you. She received N4,000,000 ransom from kidnappers and her profit was just #40,000. Can you imagine? Be wise, you may argue that you are doing business, but before your lawyer will get you out, you may spend sometime cooling off in prison #fyp #foryoupage #fy ♬ original sound – Freelanews
