Oando Group Chief Executive Wale Tinubu reaffirms commitment to Nigeria’s energy future, aiming to transform lives through sustainable and accessible power.

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a resolute commitment to power Nigeria’s future, Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of Oando, has reiterated the company’s dedication to creating accessible, sustainable energy solutions.

Speaking passionately about Oando’s 30-year journey, Tinubu underscored the company’s mission to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape and empower local communities.

“This is an energy story we’ve been writing for over 30 years,” Tinubu remarked, affirming that Oando’s focus remains on making diverse energy sources available across the country.

“We are changing Nigeria’s lives every day by providing access to varied energy sources that power industries and fuel the economy.”

Aiming to elevate Nigeria’s indigenous oil and gas sector, Tinubu framed Oando’s ambitions as part of a broader movement, likening the company’s mission to the spirit of Nigeria’s independence in the 1960s.

“We see this as the emancipation of Nigeria’s indigenous oil and gas community,” he explained, “We strive for the best, embracing meritocracy and seeing no limits.”

Central to Oando’s energy vision are its flagship Okpai projects. With the Okpai Phase I and II facilities, the company has developed nearly 1GW of reliable, efficient power, Tinubu noted.

Since 2005, Okpai Phase I has delivered over 43,435 GWh to Nigeria’s national grid, providing critical support to communities nationwide.

Okpai Phase II, currently in progress, will soon contribute 300 MW, with a further 180 MW expected by late 2025. At a cost of $800 million, the 480 MW facility represents Oando’s enduring commitment to building a self-reliant Nigeria.

Beyond infrastructure, Oando has made substantial strides in employment and operational excellence. Tinubu shared that the company has completed 12,332,594 LTI-free man-hours as of September 2024.

Local communities have also seen the benefits, with over 8.5 GW of electricity generated since the project’s inception, fostering job opportunities and economic growth.

“Building our nation remains at the heart of what we do,” Tinubu concluded, reaffirming Oando’s role as a leader in Nigeria’s energy transition.
