UBA’s business agreement in France, witnessed by Presidents Tinubu and Macron, cements its role in global banking and innovation
[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a significant milestone for African banking, Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, signed a landmark business cooperation agreement with the French Finance Minister, Antoine Armand.

The signing ceremony took place during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to France, with President Tinubu and French President Emmanuel Macron in attendance.
The agreement symbolises the French Government’s strong support for UBA’s full banking operations in France. Speaking at the event, Tony Elumelu expressed optimism about the partnership, stating:
“This partnership reinforces our commitment to seamless international banking services for our customers, not just across the 11 Francophone African countries we serve, but Africa as a whole; and French and European customers transacting with Africa. Expanding into France is a natural progression, with Paris serving as our European Union hub, as we continue to bring Africa and the world together, through innovative financial solutions. Paris will join London, New York and Dubai, as a critical component of our unique global network.”
United Bank for Africa is one of the leading employers in Africa’s financial sector, with a workforce of 25,000 employees serving over 45 million customers globally.
The bank operates in 20 African countries as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and now France.
UBA provides retail, commercial, and institutional banking services while driving financial inclusion and deploying cutting-edge technology to connect Africa with the world.
The agreement further solidifies UBA’s role as a bridge between Africa and the global economy, emphasising the bank’s commitment to fostering economic growth and international collaboration.
With Paris set to become UBA’s European Union hub, the bank’s global presence now includes key financial centres such as London, New York, and Dubai.
