Ruben Amorim defends Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa, stating there’s nothing humiliating about the transfer and it will aid his development

Amorim, speaking after United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, stated that loan moves are designed to help players improve, not diminish their value.

Rashford, who had fallen out of favour under Amorim’s management, secured a six-month loan to Villa after the manager made it clear he wasn’t part of his immediate plans.

Villa, managed by Unai Emery, agreed to cover at least 75% of Rashford’s £365,000-a-week wages, with an option to buy the player for £40 million in the summer.

Amorim addressed the notion of sending Rashford to a club higher up the table, stressing that the move was about player development rather than humiliation.

“It’s not embarrassing,” he said. “When you loan a player—and I don’t know, I think it’s not official—when you loan a player, you expect him to play and to improve, so there’s nothing humiliating there.”

The manager acknowledged the question but remained focused on his own squad, stating, “I’m just focused on my players, that’s all.

So when the window closes, I will be really focused on just our team and improving our team.”

Amorim also commented on how Rashford’s departure might influence Manchester United’s winter transfer business, adding, “We will see.
