US Pressure Secures Release of Binance Executive from Nigerian Custody
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]igran Gambaryan, a Binance executive, has regained his freedom after enduring months of imprisonment in Nigeria under dire conditions.

His release followed relentless pressure from US officials, including FBI Director Christopher Wray, the White House, and members of Congress.
Gambaryan’s ordeal began when he fell seriously ill in Kuje Prison, suffering from malaria, a chest infection, and eventually pneumonia.
His health rapidly declined, and despite a court order for medical treatment, he remained in his cell, deprived of adequate healthcare. A viral video of him struggling to walk in court intensified global calls for his release.
The US government escalated diplomatic efforts, leveraging high-level discussions and public statements. House representatives and the State Department demanded action, with congressmen urging President Biden to pressure the Nigerian government.
US Ambassador to the UN also raised the case, while Binance amplified awareness through a digital billboard campaign in New York.
Despite dropping tax evasion charges, Nigerian authorities upheld more severe money laundering accusations.
However, as negotiations with Binance stalled, the US government intensified its stance, warning Nigeria that the case could strain bilateral relations.
In October, Nigerian officials suddenly withdrew charges, citing health concerns.
Gambaryan was swiftly transferred from prison to a hotel under private security before being flown out on a medevac-equipped private jet.
He spent a night in Rome before finally returning home to Atlanta.
