The incident, which occurred on February 26, has left her family in shock and the boyfriend on the run.
According to reports, Adija had visited her boyfriend’s apartment after he invited her over. Her family grew concerned when they couldn’t reach her by phone, prompting them to check on her at her boyfriend’s residence, as she had informed them of her visit.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the apartment’s door was locked, and after forcing entry, they found Adija’s lifeless body covered with a duvet.
An Instagram user, @Eyeopener, who shared details of the incident, disclosed that Adija and her boyfriend had been in a tumultuous relationship since her university days.
The victim, who lived in Ketu with her parents, often spent weekdays at her boyfriend’s apartment, returning home on weekends.
On the night of February 26, Adija had received a call from her boyfriend around 8:30 pm and went to see him. However, when her family tried to contact her the following morning, her phone went unanswered. Knowing she was likely at her boyfriend’s place, they went to check on her and made the grim discovery.
Neighbours reported hearing loud noises coming from the apartment on Wednesday night but did not intervene, as they were familiar with the frequent arguments between the couple. It wasn’t until Adija’s tragic death was confirmed that they realised the worst had occurred.
As of now, the boyfriend has absconded, and authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend him. Speaking with our correspondent, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed that efforts are underway to locate the suspect.
Meanwhile, a close relative of Adija, identified as Tosin, shared that the victim’s mother had been a single parent who worked hard to raise her children.
Tosin also revealed that the suspect had recently expressed suicidal thoughts, reportedly telling Adija’s mother that he was “ready to die.”
At the time of writing, Adija’s family declined to comment further on the incident, with a relative stating they would speak to the press at an appropriate time.
