The incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday in the Onicha Ngwa community, located in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

Mr. Udochi Amala, 40 years old, reportedly set himself, his wife, Mrs. Amarachi Amala, and their three children ablaze. His alleged motive was suspicion of infidelity on his wife’s part.

Udochi Amala, who also sustained burns in the incident and resides in Amapuihe village in the Osisioma Local Government Area, was apprehended while attempting to flee. Tragically, one of his daughters died at the scene due to severe burns.

According to initial reports, Udochi Amala stated, “I have an issue with my wife, and I did not know that it would get to this extent. I am tired of this life.” He also reportedly confirmed that he had not caught his wife with another man.

The organization is demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and is calling for justice for the victims.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, the Police are aware. Investigation is ongoing.”

FIDA Abia, in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Njideka Aniawonwa, and Secretary, Eberechukwu Kanu Oji, expressed its “shock, outrage, and deep concern over this horrific act, which is a gross violation of human rights and dignity.”

The organization is demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and is calling for justice for the victims. FIDA Abia also emphasized the need for “support and protection for survivors of domestic violence and child abuse.”

FIDA Abia reiterated its commitment to promoting human rights, particularly the rights of women and children. It urged the public to report cases of domestic violence and child abuse and to support efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals.
