The Somolu Concerned Youth for Change (SCYC) has refuted claims of bias and religious discrimination in APC’s chairmanship primaries, affirming grassroots support for Hon. Lateef Ashimi and Hon. Taiwo Ojomu

The Somolu Concerned Youth for Change (SCYC), a youth-oriented group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed allegations of bias, bribery, and religious discrimination in the party’s recent chairmanship primaries, describing them as falsehoods peddled by “some unpopular media outfits.”

In a statement made available to the press, the group said the claims lacked substance and were aimed at discrediting a transparent and inclusive electoral process.

As young, active participants in the primaries, we witnessed firsthand the fairness and credibility of the process.

They asserted that the APC primary in Somolu was peaceful and widely accepted by party members and the grassroots community.

“These narratives being pushed by some unpopular media outfits are far from the truth,” the group stated.

“As young, active participants in the primaries, we witnessed firsthand the fairness and credibility of the process.”

The SCYC specifically affirmed the victory of Hon. Lateef Ashimi as the APC Chairmanship candidate and Hon. Taiwo Ojomu as the Vice Chairmanship candidate, stating that their emergence reflected the true voice of the grassroots.

“The victory of Hon. Lateef Ashimi and Hon. Taiwo Ojomu is not only deserved but also a genuine expression of the will of the people at the grassroots,” the group emphasized.

“They are both well-respected for their humility, performance, and accessibility, which are values that resonate strongly with the electorate.”

The group also rejected claims of religious discrimination, pointing to the public endorsement of the APC candidates by the Muslim community in Somolu.

“Our communities—regardless of faith—are united behind the party’s choice. Any suggestion otherwise is politically motivated misinformation.”

They called on aggrieved individuals to seek redress through the party’s internal mechanisms rather than resort to false media narratives.

“Rather than engage in smear campaigns, we encourage those with concerns to embrace dialogue and unity,” they said.

Concluding the statement, SCYC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democratic values, youth inclusion, and community development.

They called on all party loyalists and Somolu residents to support the APC’s candidates and work together for the area’s progress.
