Lagos Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a young woman in Mile 12, clarifying the motive was a domestic dispute, not ethnic or religious. The ex-boyfriend is currently at large

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of a young woman from Nasarawa State, whose charred remains were discovered in the “Gangare” slum area behind Mile 12 Market, Lagos.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, May 24, 2025, had initially fueled widespread speculation, including false rumors of ethnic or religious motives.

However, the police have firmly denied these claims, attributing the horrific act to a premeditated domestic dispute involving the victim’s estranged boyfriend, who is currently on the run.

In a statement issued on Sunday, May 25, 2025, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, clarified the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“This is clearly a premeditated act of conspiracy and cold-blooded murder. There was no element of blasphemy involved as some rumors have falsely claimed,” Hundeyin asserted.

This is clearly a premeditated act of conspiracy and cold-blooded murder. There was no element of blasphemy involved as some rumors have falsely claimed.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the victim, whose profession has not been disclosed, resided in the slum community with relatives from the northern region.

Her ex-boyfriend, now a fugitive, allegedly conspired with accomplices in an attempt to forcefully reconcile their relationship. When the victim resisted, the suspects reportedly abducted, killed, and then set her body ablaze.

Two suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), actively assisting detectives in the ongoing efforts to track down the remaining culprits, including the fleeing ex-boyfriend.

Authorities have moved swiftly to restore calm in the area, reassuring residents that there is no risk of ethnic tension or reprisal attacks.

“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and will provide timely updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.

Residents have been urged to maintain peace, refrain from spreading unverified reports, and continue with their lawful activities without fear.

The Command has also pledged a thorough and discreet investigation, vowing that all those involved in the heinous act will face the full weight of the law.
