Fake pharmaceutical products worth ₦20.5bn were seized by NAFDAC at Onne Port in a major crackdown against illegal, harmful imports threatening public health
Fake pharmaceutical products valued at a staggering ₦20.5 billion have been intercepted by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) at Onne Port in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

This massive crackdown underscores the agency’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health.
The seized consignment included 11 containers of unregistered, banned medicines and 4 containers of substandard tomato paste.
Among the fake pharmaceutical products were over 1.3 million bottles of codeine syrup, 12.6 million tablets of Tramadol, 9.3 million falsified Diclofenac tablets, and hundreds of packs of counterfeit Sildenafil Citrate.
This operation was made possible through close collaboration between NAFDAC and the Nigeria Customs Service, showcasing a powerful synergy in the fight against counterfeit goods.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the grave health risks these products pose, including organ damage, food poisoning, and even cancer.
She warned unscrupulous importers to desist, affirming that Nigeria will not be a dumping ground for fake pharmaceutical products.

Prof. Adeyeye called on all Nigerians to report suspicious activities and support efforts to eliminate dangerous imports. Together, she said, “we can build a healthier nation.”
