Obasanjo Library fraud suspects face Lagos court as EFCC charges 23 after hotel raid linked to internet crimes.

Obasanjo Library fraud suspects will appear in court on Friday, 15 August 2025, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigns 23 individuals linked to a major cybercrime case.

The suspects were among 93 arrested in a hotel within the grounds of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.

EFCC investigations revealed that almost all had been indicted for offences involving impersonation, identity theft and internet fraud.

Authorities say the arrests followed a raid on a pool party where the suspects were celebrating their criminal exploits.

The event was originally planned for two other venues but was moved to the OOPL hotel in an attempt to evade detection.

EFCC sources disclosed that the planners believed the former president’s facility might shield them from arrest.

The commission stressed that the OOPL was never a target of the operation and that the suspects had confessed to their involvement in online scams.

The 23 defendants will be arraigned before Justice D. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, with the remaining suspects to follow in subsequent batches.

In a firm statement, the EFCC said it remains committed to dismantling cybercrime networks and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s digital economy.
