Lagos schools monitoring compliance

Lagos schools monitoring compliance begins as OEQA inspects records, resumption dates, and teaching standards for the 2025/2026 session

The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) said monitoring started on Monday across schools below tertiary level to ensure adherence to standards.

OEQA’s Coordinating Director, Remi Abdul, led the inspection team to several schools, including Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, where the principal, Comfort Agunlejika, received the officials.

Abdul explained that the exercise was designed to enforce compliance with the approved resumption date as set out in the state’s harmonised academic calendar.

Basic and secondary schools officially reopened on 15 September for the first term of the new session.

According to the calendar, the first half of term will run until 31 October, while the second half will take place from 10 November to 19 December, each lasting 34 days, with mid-term breaks and open days in between.

The monitoring team checked whether school administrators had conducted pre-resumption meetings and whether statutory teaching records including lesson notes, diaries and attendance registers — were properly prepared.

During an interaction with senior students, Abdul urged SS3 pupils to take their studies seriously, stressing that their performance this term would determine their prospects for higher education.

He encouraged them to avoid distractions, attend classes regularly and begin early preparations for their WASSCE examinations.

Teachers were also advised to remain dedicated and committed to delivering quality education throughout the session.
