NDLEA arrests suspected drug kingpins in Lagos and seizes cocaine, heroin, meth, and tramadol in a major crackdown on syndicates nationwide

NDLEA has arrested two suspected drug kingpins in Lagos, seizing multiple consignments of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine destined for Europe.

The arrests were made following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by the Agency’s Special Operations Unit.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that 64-year-old Nwosa and 49-year-old Obiegbu, who posed as legitimate businessmen, were secretly leading separate drug syndicates.

“While Nwosa parades himself as a successful textile merchant, Obiegbu is known for wine distribution, but both hid illicit drug businesses unearthed by NDLEA operatives,” Babafemi stated.

In Borno, NDLEA arrested 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim with 39,380 tramadol and Exol-5 pills concealed in a Mercedes-Benz GLK.

In Yobe, Halima Adamu was caught with 1.4kg of Colorado, leading to another arrest in Maiduguri.

Additional operations saw two men in Kano apprehended with 30,030 tramadol pills, while Bayelsa officers seized 12kg of cannabis and 50 cartridges.

NDLEA also reported the arrest of 56-year-old Adedamola Olayeni in Abuja-Kaduna with 262.6kg of skunk.

Follow-up operations in Kaduna and Gombe led to the arrests of Zubairu Haruna and Babangida Mohammed over methamphetamine consignment.

Lagos and Abuja arrests included 85,100 tramadol pills and 2.1kg of Colorado.

In Edo State, the Agency destroyed over 24 tonnes of cannabis plants, arrested suspects, and intercepted a truck carrying 1,025kg of skunk.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (Rtd) praised officers for the nationwide success, stating, “Every gram of these dangerous drugs we seize and remove from our streets and communities reinforces our commitment to safeguard public health and national security.”

He urged all commands to sustain the momentum in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse.

The arrests coincide with the commissioning of a modern German-built canine complex in Lagos.

NDLEA credited its canine units for playing a key role in past high-profile seizures, having helped recover over 17.9 tonnes of illicit substances since deployment.

NDLEA’s ongoing operations underscore the Agency’s determination to dismantle criminal networks, protect Nigerian youths, and strengthen national security.
