In a firm statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Monday Okpebholo issued what he called a “final warning” to land speculators and encroachers, particularly those on Lot A, also known as Coral City.

The governor declared that any existing structures in the area will be pulled down, and legal action will follow for those found culpable.

“This notice serves as a strong and last warning to land grabbers and encroachers on government lands in Lot A (Coral City) and others across the state, as dire consequences await such illegal activities,” the statement said.

According to Okpebholo, while Lot A will be cleared and protected, the state is considering returning Lots B, C, and D to their rightful occupants, in a gesture aimed at promoting fairness and transparency in land management.

“This is about accountability and proper land use,” he said, adding that his administration is committed to eliminating fraudulent land practices in Edo State.

The governor’s firm stance has drawn support from various stakeholders in the real estate and housing sector, including Adron Home, which praised the move as a bold step towards curbing unlawful land dealings.

Adron Home stated that it “fully supports the governor’s efforts to uphold due process and protect both public property and genuine investors from illegal encroachments.”

As part of this directive, all ongoing sales, purchases, or constructions on Coral City lands have been declared illegal, and security agencies have been alerted to enforce the order.

With this new land policy enforcement, Governor Okpebholo is signalling a no-nonsense approach to illegal land grabbing and a renewed focus on lawful property development.
