Aregbesola accuses APC of silencing opposition

ADC’s Rauf Aregbesola accuses APC of intolerance and failure, saying the ruling party has plunged Nigeria into hunger and insecurity

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using state power to stifle dissent and intimidate opposition figures.

Speaking on Saturday at the unveiling of the ADC Secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State, the former Minister of Interior said the APC had failed Nigerians through greed, incompetence, and oppressive governance.

“Under the current administration, hunger has taken over the land. Governance has been reduced to personal enrichment and political intimidation.

Nigerians are suffering because of the failure of leadership at all levels under the APC,” Aregbesola declared.

He described the ruling party as intolerant of opposition voices, saying, “If the APC is confident of its strength, it would not be hounding and haunting opposition members everywhere.”

According to him, the ADC stands as the only “party of conscience and service” and a credible alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The hatred of Nigerians for the ruling party is obvious, and the party that will harvest that unpopularity is the ADC,” he said.

Also speaking, former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed hailed the new secretariat as “the beginning of a new direction” in the state’s political evolution, while ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “dead party awaiting its obituary.”

Abdullahi said, “The question is no longer whether Kwarans want the APC — they don’t. The question now is whether we can convince them that ADC is the only alternative.”

He also decried growing insecurity in rural Kwara, warning that the situation has crippled farming and disrupted livelihoods.

“Our people can no longer farm safely. The government must do more to restore peace and protect lives,” Abdullahi added.
