Ekiti commissioner of police orders investigation into ADC secretariat attack as Aregbesola condemns the act, calling it undemocratic

Ekiti commissioner of police has ordered a thorough investigation into the recent attack on the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ado-Ekiti, pledging to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The directive follows Monday night’s incident when suspected hoodlums invaded the party’s secretariat on Basiri/Ilesa Road, vandalising property including chairs, canopies, motorbikes, and musical instruments before setting the building ablaze.

Police spokesman SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the development on Tuesday, assuring that the command would ensure a comprehensive probe into the matter to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The Ekiti Commissioner of Police gave the assurance shortly after the arrival of the ADC National Secretary and former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, who described the attack as “undemocratic and shameful.”

Aregbesola lamented that individuals who benefitted from democratic processes could stoop so low to engage in what he called “a despicable act in the name of politics.”

He stressed that the essence of democracy lies in freedom of association and peaceful participation in political activities such as meetings, rallies, and campaigns.

“When you see undemocratic people undermining democratic processes the way we have witnessed here, it is a terrible decline,” Aregbesola stated, calling on security agencies to protect lives and property in the state.

Despite the attack, the ADC went ahead with the affirmation of its new state executives on Tuesday.

The newly inaugurated State Chairman, Mr Ilesanmi Omolayo, urged party members to remain steadfast and united in the pursuit of electoral victory.

Prominent figures at the event included former Deputy Governor of Ekiti, Prof Olusola Eleka, and former Speaker, Gboyega Aribisogun.

The Ekiti Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order, emphasising that no act of political violence would go unpunished.
