Ned Nwoko alleges a smear campaign exploiting Regina Daniels’ situation, claiming political enemies seek to damage his image

Ned Nwoko Regina Daniels crisis— Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has alleged that a “syndicate of pull-down-Ned” campaigners are exploiting reports of marital tension between him and his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, to damage his reputation.

In a statement issued by his Communication and Technical Action Team in Abuja on Monday, Nwoko claimed that long-standing political adversaries were using the situation to “criminalise” him before the international community.

He described the controversy as a coordinated gang-up aimed at undermining his work as a public official.

“Beyond this, the talk about me grabbing land in my hometown is false and unfortunate,” Nwoko said. “I was allocated a piece of land for the University of Sports — a project that now exists and serves the community.”

He lamented what he called a recurring pattern of hostility towards those who seek progress in Nigeria, saying, “Anyone who seeks progress is often attacked and torn down by their own people.”

The Senator further alleged that certain individuals were “exploiting a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to using drugs,” adding that the campaign against him was being fuelled by those attempting to “settle old scores.”

“If by now she has not brought up any credible allegation against me, it means there is nothing illegal about me, except that I want her to seek help for rehabilitation,” he said.

Nwoko maintained that Regina had a history of substance use, which, according to him, could be verified through medical records and court evidence.

He insisted that the rumours circulating online amounted to criminal defamation, warning that those behind the smear campaign would “have their day to prove their claims.”

Clarifying the timeline of his marriage, Nwoko noted that Regina Daniels was 19 at the time they wed, not 17 as alleged, and that her family formally gave her away in accordance with tradition.

“Our customs do not frown upon polygamy. I married her honourably, gave her a name, and treated her with dignity. My world revolved around her,” he said.

He described the online backlash as a politically motivated witch-hunt designed to derail his developmental efforts as a Senator.

“Regina has become a weak point through which my political and personal enemies are attacking me,” he concluded.
