DR Congo World Cup bonus offer: President Tshisekedi promises $1m to each player if the Leopards qualify for the intercontinental play-offs

DR Congo World Cup bonus promise has set a new benchmark for football incentives in Africa, as President Félix Tshisekedi has pledged a staggering $1 million reward for each member of the national team should they qualify for the intercontinental play-offs of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Leopards are gearing up for a crucial round of African play-offs during this November international window, starting with a showdown against Cameroon on Thursday, November 13.

A victory would set up a decisive encounter against Nigeria or Gabon, with the winner earning a ticket to the global play-offs.

According to Sport News Africa, the Congolese government, acting on the directive of President Tshisekedi, has approved a special financial package to motivate the team.

“Each player will receive $1 million should they advance, with arrangements already made for Rawbank to transfer the funds directly to the players if qualification is confirmed by November 16,” the outlet reported.

Interestingly, the bonus applies only to the players, excluding head coach Sébastien Desabre and his technical crew.

The decision, government insiders said, is intended to give the team “an extra push” as they aim for a first World Cup appearance since 1974.

While many African nations are engaged in friendlies this month, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, and DR Congo remain locked in fierce competition for one of the continent’s final qualification berths.

The African play-offs, organised by CAF, consist of two single-leg semi-finals and a final — all hosted in Morocco between 13 and 16 November.

The eventual winner will go on to represent Africa in the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026, where the final global qualification places for the expanded 48-team World Cup** will be determined.

For now, the DR Congo World Cup bonus stands as one of the most generous financial commitments in African football history — a clear sign of the nation’s determination to see the Leopards roar again on the world stage.
