The Super Eagles striker scored twice in Nigeria’s 4-1 extra-time victory over Gabon, securing a memorable win at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
Speaking in a video shared on Instagram by sports journalist @iamcalisports, Osimhen acknowledged the pressure of playing for both his country and club, Galatasaray, but highlighted his professional mindset.
“Sometimes I score the goal that no one believes and sometimes I lose the one that people think I’m going to score. But that doesn’t take away… I always have this mentality,” Osimhen said.
Despite missing two clear opportunities in the second half, he made amends by scoring in extra time, stressing the importance of rectifying errors immediately.
“At first, I told them I’m sorry, and I told them I’m going to correct it in extra time. And I’m happy I did it,” he added.
Osimhen also praised the support of his teammates and the collective spirit of the team.
“Kudos to the guys who gave me the assist to score those two goals. I’m happy about the mentality of the team, all of us,” he said, adding thanks to fans worldwide for their encouragement. “This win is also for them.”
Looking ahead, the forward admitted the next round will pose a challenge but pledged full commitment.
“The next round is not going to be easy either. We will give everything to make sure that we go to the final,” Osimhen concluded.
The Super Eagles had taken the lead through Akor Adams, only for Gabon to equalise late in the second half.
