The incident occurred at the Government Field in Okitipupa, where Obesere had been scheduled to entertain guests. According to a witness, Bosede Akinyemi, local thugs unexpectedly stormed the venue, causing panic and forcing attendees to flee for safety.
“I was at the party yesterday. It was a very shameful act as the group of boys, who were known thugs in the community, caused trouble.
They attacked Obesere and his band while they were entertaining guests,” Akinyemi said. She added that musical equipment worth millions was destroyed and that one band member was reportedly stabbed while trying to defend the team.
The Chairman of Okitipupa LGA, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, confirmed the attack and condemned the violence, describing the treatment of Obesere and his team as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
Hon. Ogunsakin assured the public that the incident does not reflect the values of the Ikale people and promised that measures would be taken to prevent future attacks against visitors.
He said he would personally reach out to Obesere and his band to convey the administration’s regrets.
