Nnadozie shines as FA WSL goal prevention leader

Nnadozie shines as she tops the WSL goal-prevention rankings after Brighton’s 1–0 win, recording five saves and her third clean sheet of the season

Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie moved to the top of the Women’s Super League goal-prevention standings after delivering a commanding performance in Brighton’s 1–0 win over London City Lionesses on Sunday.

The Nigeria international made five saves and secured her third clean sheet of the campaign, underlining why Nnadozie shines in England this season.

Current league data shows that Nnadozie has now registered the second-highest number of clean sheets in the division and has recorded 42 saves in ten matches.

Analysts say she has prevented more goals than any other goalkeeper in the WSL, a metric measured by comparing expected goals on target against actual goals conceded.

Nnadozie leads the table with a goal-prevention value of 2.9. Hannah Hampton follows on 1.9, with Ayaka Yamashita on 1.1. Sabrina D’Angelo, Daphne van Domselaar and Lize Kop complete the top six.

Her latest contribution came in a tense contest in which Brighton took an early lead through Kiko Seike in the sixth minute.

The visitors almost doubled their advantage 13 minutes later after Wassa Sangare conceded a penalty.

Madison Haley stepped up, but Elene Lete saved her effort to keep London City Lionesses within reach.

The home side settled into the match and controlled large spells of possession, but Nnadozie produced four crucial first-half saves to preserve Brighton’s lead.

Although the Lionesses pressed after the break, they created only one effort on target, which Nnadozie gathered comfortably.

The victory lifts Brighton to seventh place on 14 points, trimming the gap to sixth-placed London City Lionesses to one point.
