The Super Eagles reached the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals after a dominant 4–0 win over Mozambique in Fès, extending their perfect tournament run

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday secured a place in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals after a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique in their Round of 16 clash in Fès, Morocco.

Nigeria entered the match with confidence after winning all three Group C fixtures and immediately imposed their authority on the contest.

Mozambique, appearing in the Round of 16 for the first time after finishing as one of the best third-placed teams in Group F, struggled to contain Nigeria’s pace and precision.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman converted a pass from Akor Adams to give Nigeria the lead.

Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen doubled the advantage with a composed finish, tightening Nigeria’s grip on the game.

Nigeria resumed the second half with renewed intensity, and Osimhen struck again in the 47th minute after another assist from Lookman.

Adams sealed the emphatic victory in the 75th minute, completing a ruthless attacking display.

Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi captained the side, supported by Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi, while Stanley Nwabali returned in goal.

The defensive line of Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, and Bruno Onyemaechi denied Mozambique any clear opportunities.

Second-half substitutions saw Paul Onuachu, Samuel Chukwueze, Tom Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika, and Moses Simon introduced as head coach Eric Chelle managed the game comfortably.

By the 80th minute, Nigeria had recorded eight shots on target, while Mozambique failed to register a single effort on goal.

The result extends Nigeria’s flawless run at the tournament and reinforces their status as strong title contenders.

The Super Eagles AFCON 2025 quarter-finals berth keeps the three-time champions on course for a potential fourth continental crown.
