BUK expels students after senate approval, reaffirming zero tolerance for examination malpractice and commitment to academic integrity
Bayero University, Kano, has expelled at least 60 students from various departments for involvement in examination malpractice, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to maintaining strict academic standards.

The decision was taken at the university’s 43rd statutory Senate meeting held on January 7, 2026, following a detailed review of reports and recommendations submitted by relevant academic and disciplinary committees.
The expulsions were formally announced in the university’s official Weekly Bulletin published on Friday, with management confirming that the affected students were found guilty of breaching the institution’s examination rules and regulations.
“After reviewing the cases, the Senate approved the expulsion of the students in accordance with the university’s examination regulations,” the bulletin stated.
According to the publication, the Senate examined each case individually before approving the sanctions, ensuring that due process was followed in line with existing guidelines.
The university reiterated its zero tolerance stance on examination misconduct, stressing that firm disciplinary measures would continue to be enforced as a deterrent to future violations.
BUK further warned that any form of examination malpractice would attract severe consequences, regardless of a student’s status or department, underscoring its resolve to uphold academic integrity and institutional discipline.
The latest decision follows a similar action taken in April 2025, when the university expelled 62 students and rusticated 17 others over examination misconduct.
That earlier sanction was approved by the Senate at its 42nd meeting held on February 26, 2025, reflecting what the institution described as a consistent and uncompromising approach to safeguarding academic standards.

University authorities said the measures are aimed at preserving the credibility of its academic programmes and reinforcing a culture of honesty and accountability among students.
