UBA launches Instant Account Opening platform, enabling fully digital, borderless onboarding for customers across Africa and the diaspora

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Africa’s Global Bank, has launched its UBA Instant Account Opening platform, a fully digital solution designed to make banking faster, more accessible, and borderless for customers across Africa and in the diaspora.

The platform allows prospective customers to open accounts entirely online, eliminating the need for paperwork and branch visits.

Users can start the onboarding process via computers, tablets, or smartphones, select their preferred language and country, and complete Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements digitally.

UBA’s platform supports both Naira and Diaspora accounts and is compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ensuring strong privacy and regulatory adherence for all customers.

Shamsideen Fashola, Group Head, Retail and Digital Banking, said the launch underscores UBA’s commitment to leveraging technology to democratise access to financial services.

“Our new Instant Account Opening platform removes traditional barriers, making it easy for anyone — whether on the continent or in the diaspora — to open an account in minutes. Banking should be accessible, secure, and truly borderless,” he said.

Alero Ladipo, Group Head, Brand, Marketing, and Corporate Communication, added that the platform combines speed, convenience, and compliance without compromise, reflecting global best practices.

Customers can complete facial verification, upload documents, add a digital signature, and receive their account number instantly.

UBA operates in 20 African countries, as well as the United Kingdom, United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates.

The bank provides retail, commercial, and institutional banking services and serves over 50 million customers globally, employing 30,000 staff.
