INEC CVR registration hits 573,395 as BVAS clocks five-second accreditation ahead of FCT Area Council elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that INEC CVR registration recorded 573,395 completed voter registrations under Phase II, Week Four of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise as of 30 January 2026.

Figures released by the commission showed that 281,502 registrants completed the process through the online pre-registration platform, while 291,893 finalised their registration physically at CVR centres nationwide.

The data indicated a gender split of 247,741 male registrants, representing 43 per cent, and 325,654 female registrants, representing 57 per cent.

INEC also confirmed that 10,618 Persons with Disabilities were captured among the new registrants.

Meanwhile, INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, expressed satisfaction with the commission’s operational preparedness ahead of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections scheduled for 21 February 2026.

Professor Amupitan led senior officials of the commission on Saturday to monitor a mock accreditation exercise in the FCT alongside the ongoing Training-of-Trainers programme for Supervisory Presiding Officers.

Addressing participants during the exercise, the INEC Chairman emphasised strict adherence to the training manual to ensure uniform election procedures across all area councils.

Professor Amupitan commended election officials for their commitment, describing their service as a sacrifice to nation-building despite modest remuneration, and voiced optimism that their efforts would earn broader national recognition.

He also assessed the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, stating that accreditation took less than five seconds per voter and that the system successfully prevented multiple accreditation attempts.

Professor Amupitan observed the presence of political party agents at the mock exercise, noting that although civil society organisations were absent, the exercise remained crucial for testing readiness and boosting voter awareness ahead of the polls.
