False rape claim Ogun case unfolds as police plan to arrest and prosecute TikToker who allegedly admitted fabricating viral allegation
The Ogun State Police Command has concluded plans to arrest and prosecute a female TikTok user, identified as Mirabel, after she allegedly admitted that her earlier claim of rape was false.

The development follows a viral phone conversation shared on Thursday by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
An audio recording circulating online captured Mirabel apologising after being confronted with messages she had initially attributed to her alleged attacker.
In the conversation, she was heard admitting that parts of her earlier account were untrue and that she had created a threatening TikTok account herself.
A senior police source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly, said a Divisional Police Officer and other officers were at the hospital where Mirabel was receiving treatment.
According to the source, she would be taken into custody upon discharge and charged to court.
“The DPO and some senior officers are currently at the hospital. Once she is discharged, she will be taken into custody, and a charge will be prepared for trial.
The essence is to serve as a deterrent,” the source said.
Mirabel had earlier alleged on TikTok that a stranger forcibly gained access to her apartment in the Ogijo area of Ogun State and raped her.
The claim triggered widespread outrage online, with calls for swift action against sexual violence.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, had earlier confirmed that the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo Division to reach out to the complainant after the report surfaced.
She said the matter was initially reported at Ibafo Police Station before being transferred to Ogijo Police Station for proper documentation and investigation.
Odutola added that Mirabel was promptly taken to a medical facility for assessment and later referred for further care due to her fragile condition.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency also stated earlier that although it had made contact through a close associate of the woman, the alleged incident occurred in Ogun State and fell outside its jurisdiction.
When contacted on Thursday for an update following the alleged admission, Odutola said the command was reviewing the latest development and would issue an official statement in due course.
