Netnaija CEO Emmanuel Analike remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre over copyright infringement, bail hearing adjourned to March 9 by Federal High Court Abuja.

Analike appeared before the Federal High Court Abuja, facing allegations brought by the **Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC).

Justice Suleiman Liman ordered that he remain in custody pending a ruling on his bail application, which has been scheduled for March 9.

Counsel to the defendant, Nnemeka Ejiofor, informed the court that the bail application, supported by 23 paragraphs of affidavits and a written address, was filed on Monday.

However, the judge adjourned the decision, refusing to give a bench ruling at Wednesday’s hearing.

The charges against Analike, under Section 44 (1)(a) of the Copyright Act, 2022, include possession of infringing copies, making infringing copies, distribution of infringing works, and providing infringing copies to others.

The Netnaija boss pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Speaking to reporters after proceedings, NCC Head of Legal, Gladys Isaac-Ojo, said the arrest followed allegations of online piracy involving sound recordings and audiovisual works from both local and international authors.

“I am so excited that we were able to get him after all efforts. It is a huge success and something remarkable because of the joy it brings to the NCC,” she said.

Isaac-Ojo stressed that Analike’s counsel has the right to file for bail, which will be determined by the court.

She also confirmed that both Analike and his company were charged due to the infringement being committed through the Netnaija platform, an online movie and music download site.
