Kaffy marriage failure admission reveals why her union ended as she calls for mandatory counselling and reforms before marriage in Nigeria

Popular Nigerian dancer and choreographer Kafayat Shafau, widely known as Kaffy, has revealed that her marriage ended due to her limited understanding of what marriage truly requires, making the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.

The Kaffy marriage failure admission offers a candid reflection on her past relationship with Joseph Ameh, whom she married in June 2012 before their divorce in January 2022, highlighting what she described as a lack of proper preparation before entering into marriage.

Kaffy said many individuals, including herself, go into marriage without adequate knowledge, guidance, or emotional readiness, describing the experience as a hard lesson that exposed deep gaps in societal preparation for long-term relationships.

She called for a bold overhaul of how marriage is approached, recommending mandatory counselling, mental health evaluations, and structured pre-marital programmes to equip couples with the tools needed to build stable unions.

According to Kaffy, the current system makes it easier to obtain a marriage certificate than a driver’s licence, a reality she described as troubling given the far-reaching impact of marriage on families and society.

She further stressed that beyond counselling, intending couples should undergo psychological assessments, drug tests, and a comprehensive programme focused on human behavioural sciences before committing to marriage.

The Kaffy marriage failure admission has sparked conversations about the importance of emotional intelligence, mental health awareness, and deliberate preparation in sustaining healthy relationships.
