Hotel staff theft confession reveals alleged diversion of ₦17.8 million over several years, with funds reportedly shared among employees

A senior employee of Davies Hotel in Bodija has allegedly confessed to stealing millions of naira from the establishment over a five-year period, claiming that the proceeds were shared among several members of staff involved in the scheme.

The staff member, whose identity was not disclosed, made the admission during a confession in which he detailed how funds belonging to the hotel were allegedly diverted over time.

According to the employee, approximately ₦17.8 million passed through his personal account between May 2025 and June 2026.

The alleged confession forms the centre of a growing Hotel Staff Theft Confession case that has drawn attention to internal financial controls and accountability within hospitality businesses.

“For the past five years, I have been stealing from Davies Hotel. I shared the proceeds with other staff because we were all involved.

Between May 2025 and June 2026, about ₦17.8 million of the hotel’s money passed through my account, and I built a house from the proceeds,” the staff member reportedly stated.

The confession suggests that the alleged fraud may have involved multiple individuals, although no details were provided regarding the number of employees implicated or the specific roles they played.

It remains unclear whether law enforcement agencies have formally charged any suspects or whether investigations are still ongoing.

The claim that funds were channelled through a personal account and allegedly used to construct a house has intensified interest in the case, particularly concerning how the transactions went undetected for an extended period.

Financial crimes experts often note that prolonged internal fraud schemes can occur when oversight mechanisms are weak or when multiple individuals collaborate to conceal irregular transactions.

Neither Davies Hotel nor relevant authorities had publicly provided further details on the matter at the time of reporting.

As investigations continue, the alleged Hotel Staff Theft Confession is expected to raise broader questions about internal auditing practices, financial monitoring systems and fraud prevention measures within the hospitality sector.
