ACCORD Deregistration Appeal: Oriyomi Hamzat rejects court ruling, insists party will challenge deregistration at the Court of Appeal

Oyo State governorship candidate of the ACCORD Party, Oriyomi Hamzat, has reacted to the Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the party and other political parties, insisting that the decision will be challenged at the appellate level.

Hamzat described the ruling as one that raises significant legal and constitutional questions, expressing confidence that the matter will ultimately be resolved by the Court of Appeal, where related issues are already pending.

He maintained that the ACCORD Deregistration Appeal is already before the appellate court, stressing that the party’s legal team is actively taking steps within the ambit of the law to ensure that justice is achieved.

In his statement, Hamzat urged supporters of the party across Oyo State and Nigeria to remain calm and not be unsettled by the judgment, assuring them that there was no cause for panic.

He emphasised that political parties serve as constitutional platforms for citizen participation in governance and warned against any action that could be interpreted as limiting democratic choice without strict judicial scrutiny.

Hamzat further argued that while courts must respect due process, they are also expected to exercise caution in matters where appeals have been entered, so as not to render appellate proceedings ineffective.

Reaffirming the party’s position, he said ACCORD remains committed to offering what he described as a credible political alternative based on integrity, accountability and people-centred leadership.

He added that no court decision could undermine what he called the growing desire among Nigerians for a new political direction, insisting that political movements are driven by citizens rather than judicial setbacks.

The governorship candidate called on supporters to remain united, peaceful and steadfast, stressing that democracy is strengthened through inclusion and free political choice rather than exclusion or intimidation.

Hamzat concluded by expressing confidence that the judiciary would address all issues arising from the ruling in due course, while reiterating that the party would continue to pursue its objectives through lawful means.

As of press time, the Federal High Court had not issued further clarification on the ruling, while legal observers expect the matter to proceed to the appellate courts for determination.
