Osun governor commissions the Oke-Fia flyover as music star Davido encourages voters to participate peacefully in the August 15 governorship election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday inaugurated the newly completed Oke-Fia flyover in Osogbo, while Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, used the occasion to urge residents to participate peacefully in the August 15 governorship election and safeguard their votes.

The commissioning ceremony blended infrastructure with civic engagement as the governor showcased one of his administration’s landmark road projects, while Davido encouraged eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights without resorting to violence.

Addressing a large crowd at the event, Davido called on the electorate to turn out in large numbers and vote for candidates of their choice without intimidation or fear.

“I want everyone to come out en masse and vote for the candidate of your choice. Stay back and protect your vote, but do so peacefully. Don’t fight anybody.

Let your vote speak for you,” Davido said.

The singer’s appearance drew enthusiastic cheers from supporters, adding a human touch to the inauguration as residents gathered to celebrate the completion of the long-awaited infrastructure.

Speaking shortly after commissioning the project, Governor Ademola Adeleke described elections as an essential pillar of democratic governance and appealed to eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully during the governorship poll.

The governor thanked residents for their continued support since he assumed office, saying their confidence had inspired his administration to pursue projects aimed at improving public infrastructure and living standards across the state.

“I thank the good people of Osun State for standing by this administration. Your support has encouraged us to deliver projects that are transforming our state.

“I urge you to come out in large numbers on election day and vote peacefully. If given another opportunity, we will do even more for our people,” Adeleke said.

The inauguration also received the endorsement of the traditional institution.

The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, represented by the Asiwaju of Osogbo, Justice Adekunle Adeigbe (retd.), praised the governor for delivering what he described as a remarkable project that would improve mobility within the state capital.

“We appreciate Governor Adeleke for this magnificent edifice. Osogbo has witnessed significant infrastructural development under this administration, and this project is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the lives of the people,” Adeigbe said.

The Oke-Fia flyover is among several road and transport infrastructure projects undertaken by the Adeleke administration since assuming office.

The government has consistently argued that expanding road infrastructure is essential to easing traffic congestion, improving connectivity and supporting economic activities across Osun State.

The commissioning comes just days before the August 15 governorship election, a contest expected to draw keen national attention.

Political parties, civil society groups and electoral authorities have repeatedly appealed to residents to maintain peace before, during and after the poll.

Against that backdrop, both Governor Ademola Adeleke and Davido used the inauguration not only to celebrate a major public project but also to reinforce calls for peaceful participation in the democratic process.
