Ondo command detains 27-year-old after guardian reports repeated absences of 15-year-old domestic worker

In Akure on Tuesday 11 August 2026, the Ondo State Police Command announced that operatives had taken 27-year-old Solomon Onaola into custody over the alleged rape of a 15-year-old domestic worker in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s public relations officer, said the girl’s guardian reported the matter at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station on 2 August after noticing the teenager had repeatedly left home without permission.

When questioned about her absences, the girl disclosed that Solomon Onaola had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

Police operatives began inquiries immediately and arrested Onaola. The case was then transferred to the command’s gender-based offences unit for discreet investigation.

Jimoh stated that the survivor had been placed under appropriate care while officers followed established procedures for cases involving alleged sexual offences against minors.

Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu directed the specialised unit to conduct a thorough and professional investigation to establish the facts and ensure justice is served.

“The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from sexual exploitation, abuse and other forms of violence,” Jimoh said.

Onaola remains in police custody and will be charged to court once investigations conclude. The command has long emphasised zero tolerance for offences against minors, consistent with its handling of earlier gender-based violence reports across the state.

The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by officers to respond promptly when guardians raise concerns about the safety of young domestic workers in their care.
