The Super Eagles have arrived in Russia ahead of their international friendly against the hosts on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The Nigerian delegation left Abuja on Thursday and arrived at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport on Friday ahead of the encounter at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
The match will give head coach Éric Chelle an opportunity to assess his squad and look at several players as Nigeria continue preparations for upcoming international assignments.
The squad has undergone some changes following the withdrawals of captain Wilfred Ndidi and defender Victory Akpe. Vince Osuji and John Otomewo have been called up as their replacements.
Several players are also expected to receive opportunities to impress at senior international level, with the fixture forming part of Chelle’s ongoing assessment of his options.
Nigeria and Russia last met in June 2025 at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, where both sides played out a 1-1 draw. Tolu Arokodare scored Nigeria’s equaliser after Russia had taken the lead through a Semi Ajayi own goal.
Tuesday’s encounter will be the second meeting between the two countries in 16 months. The match is scheduled for 6:00pm Nigerian time at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
