The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a suspected high-tech indoor cannabis farm at a residential property in Apapa, arresting a 49-year-old Polish national and a 36-year-old Nigerian in connection with the discovery.
The suspects were identified as Thomas Razvickas, 49, and James Chisome, 36. Both men were reportedly residing at the property where the suspected cannabis cultivation facility was discovered.
The operation was carried out on Monday, November 2, at about 8:15 am, following credible intelligence received by police operatives about activities at the residential property.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3.
According to the police spokesperson, operatives conducted a search of the premises based on the intelligence and discovered a sophisticated indoor farming facility equipped for the cultivation, harvesting and processing of substances suspected to be cannabis.
The facility was reportedly fitted with equipment designed to support different stages of cannabis production, suggesting that the property had been converted into an indoor cultivation and processing centre.
Adebisi confirmed that the two suspects were arrested during the operation and taken into police custody.
She added that the suspects had made confessional statements and were providing useful information to assist investigators with the ongoing investigation.
Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, visited the property to inspect the facility, assess the operation and receive a briefing from the officers handling the case.
Fatai commended the operatives for their vigilance and effective use of intelligence, noting the importance of intelligence-led policing in identifying and disrupting criminal activities.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling drug-related offences, dismantling criminal networks and preventing individuals involved in criminal activities from using Lagos as a base for their operations.
He also acknowledged the cooperation of residents in providing information to security agencies and urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
The command assured residents that it would sustain proactive policing and intelligence-gathering efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.
Meanwhile, the police have not publicly disclosed the quantity of suspected cannabis recovered from the property, the estimated value of the facility or how long the alleged operation had been running.
The precise roles allegedly played by the two suspects in the cultivation and processing activities have also not been fully established publicly.
