‘This is bad’ Whogohost boss, Toba Obaniyi, announces price increase

A popular indigenous hosting company in Nigeria, WHogohost, has announced its readiness to jack up prices of its offerings in coming days.

This was made known to Freelanews by the chief executive officer of the company, Toba Obaniyi, in a video message.

According to him, the worrisome economic situation in Nigeria with the inflation rate at an all time high has led to a general increase in the cost of goods and services.

“2020 was a very difficult year for businesses all around world, especially for businesses here in Nigeria.

“We witnessed inflation that has spread to this year causing the rise in the cost of doing business and we understand that it has really been a difficult year so far for many businesses.

“But beyond inflation, we also see the devaluation of the naira to the dollar. While we had an exchange rate of about N350 to the dollar in 2020, but now it has gotten to as high as N500 per dollar this year.

“What this means is that the cost of services that we offer to many of our customers has greatly increased since we pay for some of these services in dollars,” Obaniyi stated.

He explained that due to its company’s commitment in offering affordable services due to customers’ loyalty, the prices remained unchanged for several months.

“We managed the situation for a couple of months, but it has become clear that it is very difficult for us to continue to offer the same level of service at the same price that we sell to you the customers.

“These had led us to make a difficult decision of reviewing the price of some of our services to you,” he added.

WhoGoHost was founded in 2007 by Opeyemi Awoyemi, then a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, to serve clients of his web design firm, ennovateNIGERIA, who also needed hosting for their websites.

Obaniyi took over as the CEO of the company in 2012, building the company, with the help of a dedicated and talented team, to the size it is today.

WhoGoHost, then simply a reseller that provided hosting services to customers, has metamorphosed into one of the leading surviving Nigerian hosting companies, still allowing customers to pay in local currency.
