She described the incident on the Ikorodu Expressway, where officers allegedly took her car with her daughter still inside.
“Yesterday, it was terrible experiencing how Nigerians are being treated… towards Ikorodu Expressway, at a particular point where they claim to have several lanes of BRT,” Bakare stated.
She continued, “In a sane country, no officer or agent would ever drive away a 14-year-old girl, leaving her confused about where she was being taken.”
Bakare’s claims garnered significant attention, with many expressing outrage over the purported police misconduct.

However, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, quickly responded to Bakare’s allegations, providing a different account of the events.
Hundeyin explained that Bakare was stopped for driving on a lane designated for BRT buses, which is a traffic violation.

Instead of complying with the officers and paying the required fine, Bakare allegedly chose to create a scene.
“You were stopped for contravening traffic laws by driving on the BRT lane. You chose to create a scene and remain out of your vehicle when it was being taken to the LAMATA office,” Hundeyin stated.
He emphasized that the officers were not going to succumb to her tactics to delay them.
Hundeyin clarified that Bakare paid the correct fine of N70,000 into government coffers and left with her receipt and vehicle.
He assured the public that no harm came to Bakare or her daughter during the incident.
