Mrs Akinola, a respected administrator and until her death the Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, became the fifth female local government official to die in the state within just two months.
The series of deaths, all occurring since the July 2025 council inauguration, has triggered a wave of shock and grief across local government circles.
The Forum of Council Managers formally announced her passing, stating: “With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs Adebimpe Akinola… She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”
Her burial took place on Tuesday, 30 September, in accordance with Islamic rites. Janazah prayers were held at Al Kitab Mosque, Eleshin, and she was laid to rest at Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.
The death of Adebimpe Akinola follows a pattern of recent losses among female local government leaders in Lagos.
On 13 August, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C, Ibeju Lekki Local Government, died shortly after taking office.
Five days later, Zainab Shotayo of Ward C, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, passed away.
The month of September brought further sorrow. On the 20th, Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died.
A day later, Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, also passed away.
This string of tragedies has left many reeling, with some observers calling the frequency of deaths among female officials “unprecedented” in the history of Lagos State’s local government system.
The late Akinola was widely respected for her leadership, work ethic and contributions to public service.
Her colleagues and community members described her passing as a profound loss and a tragic continuation of an already distressing trend.
