[dropcap]S[/dropcap]egun Kayode Oyeniyi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship aspirant for the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Authority (LCDA), has issued a stark warning to party leaders regarding the potential negative implications of unresolved intra-party disputes stemming from the upcoming local government (LG) primaries.

Oyeniyi, known popularly as Segkay, cautioned that a poorly managed LG primary process could trigger a “bandwagon effect,” significantly weakening the APC’s grassroots base in Lagos and jeopardizing President Bola Tinubu’s chances of a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists amidst the ongoing political realignments within the Lagos APC, Oyeniyi, a vocal mobilizer with substantial grassroots support, expressed his deep concern over the perceived manipulation of the LG screening exercises by certain party leaders.
He reiterated that failure to properly manage and resolve the current intra-party squabbles could lead to electoral setbacks in 2027, reminiscent of the APC’s performance in the last presidential election.
Oyeniyi recalled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) results, which showed Labour Party’s Peter Obi narrowly outpacing Tinubu in Lagos State.
“He warned APC Leaders to beware of the bandwagon effect of a showdy LG primary that can weakened the grassroots base in Lagos and jeopardize President Bola Tinubu chance of landslide winning in 2027,” said Segun Oyeniyi.
Oyeniyi also addressed his withdrawal from the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA chairmanship race following the Justice Forum/Asiwaju Solidarity Movement (JF/ASM) caucus screening.
He explained that as a committed party leader and Ward ‘C’ Secretary, he aligned with the strategic decision of the Alimosho JF/ASM apex leaders to support Honourable Ladipupo Oluwaloni-Olo as the party’s chairmanship flagbearer.
He advised other APC caucuses to emulate the “forthright, foresight and unmatched patriotism” demonstrated by Her Excellency, Princess Honourable Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
Oyeniyi concluded by urging all APC caucus leaders to prioritize the resolution of lingering crises surrounding the LG primaries.
