A fire in Jos Correctional Barracks destroyed properties in a 12-room block. No lives lost, but losses attributed to a PHCN voltage surge
A devastating fire broke out today at the Nigerian Correctional Barracks in Jos, destroying the upper floor of a storey building block housing officers and personnel.
Eyewitnesses told Freelanews.com that the fire, caused by a high voltage surge from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), razed six rooms upstairs in a 12-room residential block.
The building housed officers and men of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Though no lives were lost in the fire, significant property damage was reported.
Occupants lost belongings to the flames, with some residents narrowly escaping.
The delay in the fire service’s response drew attention, as residents struggled to contain the fire before professional help arrived.
More details shortly.
