During a no-holds-barred interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, Charly Boy—real name Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa—stated boldly that “the slogan for 2027 is rig and die.”
A cultural icon known for blending activism with audacity, Charly Boy is once again using his voice to warn of potential unrest if electoral integrity is compromised.
“Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die,” he warned, adding that Nigerians will have to choose between continuing on the current path or sparking a revolution.
“Enough is enough. We cannot continue to have the worst of us leading the best of us.”
A long-standing advocate for justice and good governance, the OurMumuDonDo convener emphasized that a fair electoral process is Nigeria’s only path to lasting change. According to him, 2027 will be a tipping point.
Reacting to the Lagos State Government’s decision to rename the “Charly Boy Bus Stop” in Bariga, he called the move “outright silly and a bloody distraction.”
His priority, he insists, is rescuing millions of Nigerians from hunger and economic despair.
Charly Boy also voiced support for activist Omoyele Sowore, recently freed from police custody. He hailed Sowore’s courage and called for more young Nigerians to join the struggle to fix the nation.
“Anyone doing what Sowore does must be ready for arrest at any time. But we need more like him. Nigeria’s salvation lies in the hands of exceptional young people.”
