Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso

Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso has described the defection of top NNPP members in Kano State to the APC as the highest form of betrayal, urging youths to remain vigilant against self-serving politicians

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]enator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State and National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has lashed out at key members of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing their actions as a deep betrayal of the movement and the party.

Speaking at his Miller Road residence in Kano on Friday evening, Kwankwaso addressed hundreds of supporters from Takai Local Government Area who had refused to follow the defectors to the APC.

Among those who left the NNPP is Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, representing Kano South Senatorial District, alongside other federal lawmakers. While Kwankwaso did not directly name the defectors, his criticism was sharp and direct.

“Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected superghetti, N200, and Atamfa and were patient to vote for the NNPP.

But those who won the election among us decided to abandon the masses and join those who are only after what they will get for themselves and their families,” Kwankwaso declared.

There is no worse political sin than abandoning the party that gave you a platform — this is betrayal at its highest level.

He further stated, “There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you the opportunity and support. This is the highest level of betrayal.”

Kwankwaso warned the youth to be cautious of politicians who prioritise personal gain over public service, saying those who betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement would soon regret their decisions.

“Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not an easy task — they will only understand that when they begin,” he said.

The event was also attended by Senator Rufai Sani Hanga (Kano Central), NNPP State Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa, former Commissioner of Religious Affairs Falali, and the Chairman of Takai Local Government, Ibrahim Faruruwa.

Dungurawa welcomed the loyal supporters back into the party and assured them of equal treatment within the NNPP.
