The veteran Nollywood actor, born Segun Remi, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the age of 72.
The sad news was first announced by celebrity journalist Seun Oloketuyi via Instagram.
He wrote simply, “Popular actor, Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, died Friday morning.” At the time of filing this report, the exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Chief Kanran was a beloved figure in the Yoruba film industry. Known for his commanding presence, sharp wit, and expressive style, he was a staple on stage and screen for decades.
His unique acting legacy made him a household name, and he remained active in entertainment circles even in his later years.

In a related development, the Nollywood industry suffered another blow with the death of actor Seun Confirm, who reportedly passed away due to complications from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
His colleague, actress Jaiye Kuti, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram:
“Seun confirm….. Aaaah iku omo yin dun mi ooooo… Not now, Lord! May God console your family. Rest in peace.”
