‘Committed to helping’ Rotary Club more than projects but serving humanity, district governor says (Photos)

The newly installed Change Maker District Governor (District 9110, Nigeria) Rotarian Remi Bello FCA, during his official visit at the commissioning of the star project of Rotary Club of Lagos Central has pledged and reiterated the commitment of the club to maintenance of hygiene in public places as the country goes through the global Covid-19 pandemic.

DG. Rotarian Remi Bello FCA, reiterated this commitment, on his maiden familiarization visit to Rotary Club of Lagos Central at the back of his recent assumption of office as the district governor.

According to him, Rotary club has social missions that are committed to helping people live well by promoting hygiene in all spheres of live. This is a charge that specifically comes to bear during these challenging times. Bello said his administration was focused on ensuring that the District 9110, which accommodates over 100 Rotary clubs within Lagos and Ogun states, did more in Rotary International’s six focus areas. “Rotary Club is more about doing more of projects, more of engagements, collaboration and partnerships within its communities. It is about serving humanity”, he said.

Welcoming the governor, the change maker president of the Lagos Central Rotary Club, Rotarian Rotimi Okafor Esq. thanked the governor for the visit and pledged the commitment and support of the club to the success of Bello’s tenure as the district governor. He also commended the project team for making the dream of providing the facilities to the school come true, as this will go a long way in helping the students and teachers maintain a healthy and hygienic lifestyle. The President also acknowledged, Shodex Garden in making the tree planting a reality with their collaboration.

The highlights of the governor’s visit are, the tree planting session and the commissioning of the new toilets and washrooms at Elegbaata senior high school donated by the Rotary Club of Lagos Central. The Chairman of the service projects committee, Past Assistant District Governor Rotarian Demola Ali, said the projects are designed in phases and that it would eventually culminate, in the painting of the building and fixing of the ceilings of the school.

The Principal of the school, Mr. Oyekan, appreciated Rotary Club of Lagos Central for its initiative, as this will aid in healthy living among other measures that are key to abate the spread of disease among the students and teachers. He urged that the club should continue its good works. The Governor also redecorated the public image director of the club with the rotary pin and admitted two new Rotarians into the club to serve. As the rotary theme for the year states, “serve to change lives”.
