Customs officer found dead headlines made waves across Katsina on 15 October after Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur was discovered lifeless in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances.

The incident occurred at Murjani Hotel, located in the heart of Katsina. According to hotel staff, Tukur’s body was found around 8:30 a.m., prompting an immediate alert to local authorities.
Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that empty sachets of suspected substances were recovered from the waste bin in the room.
Though the precise nature of the substances has not been confirmed, their presence has raised serious concerns.
Three women—Khadija Ali (34), Aisha Lawal (30), and Hafsat Yusuf (22)—were reportedly seen at the hotel during the time of the incident. Two of the women are believed to have spent the night in the same room with the deceased officer.
Tukur’s body was transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, where medical personnel confirmed his death. An autopsy has been commissioned, and the outcome is expected to inform the official cause of death.
The Nigeria Customs Service has been formally notified, while local law enforcement continues its investigation. No official arrests have been confirmed at this time.
