Dangote Group plans to transport refined petroleum products by sea as part of its strategy to reduce road traffic pressure and expand export capabilities.
The announcement was made by Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, the Senior Adviser to the Group President on Special Projects and Strategic Relations, in a statement released on Sunday.
The company has built a jetty in the Lekki Free Zone, designed to handle bulk cargoes during the development of its state-of-the-art refinery.
Wali-Abdurrahman highlighted that the company is currently exporting products to several African countries via seaports, and the new initiative aims to extend this further by distributing refined petroleum products along the Nigerian coast.
The move is expected to ease road congestion and enhance distribution efficiency to the hinterland.
The statement also revealed that Dangote Group, a major sponsor of the trade fair held by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, drew significant attention from attendees.
Many visitors were keen to learn about the refinery’s operations and explore business opportunities within the group’s various sectors, including Dangote Fertiliser, Sugar, Salt (NASCON), and Cement.
A participant, Peter Ibrahim, expressed his interest in job and business opportunities at the Dangote Refinery, while cement dealer Sale Sagir indicated that he came to the trade fair specifically to explore becoming a distributor of Dangote Petroleum products.
In addition, Wali-Abdurrahman mentioned that Dangote has been investing in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to reduce carbon emissions. Over the past decade, the group has converted about a third of its fleet to CNG, and this process is ongoing as they aim to convert the entire fleet.
Chief Emeka Obegolu, President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, praised Dangote Group for its immense contribution to Nigeria’s industrial growth.
He added that the company’s taxes have played a crucial role in supporting national infrastructure projects and social programmes.
