Ogun State government has been advised to start taking lessons from the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, on building and compliance.

Social media users arrived at this conclusion in the wake of a controversial incident wherein the Ogun State government, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, demolished DATKEM Plaza, a project worth over one billion naira, over what critics claim were flimsy excuses.

In contrast, LASBCA has been praised for its professional handling of a similar situation.

The agency recently issued a letter of post-construction audit to the owner of Heyden Filling Station in Ilupeju, Lagos State, advising them to rectify their documents.

The owner has been given a 90-day period to comply with the requirements. See the letter below.

Many political watchers are of the opinion that the destruction of DATKEM Plaza would have a significant consequences for the citizens of Ijebu Ode.

“The loss of the plaza will result in a loss of employment opportunities, trade, and commerce. Additionally, the state has missed out on expected tax revenues, and prospective investors would be hesitant to do businesses in the state due to perceived unstable policies,” one wrote.

Another wrote, “These Ogun State guys need to seek guidance from LASBCA on the need to be more professional and transparent handling of building compliance issues. These could also help the Ogun State government avoid future controversies and ensure sustainable development in the state.”

Observers are hopeful that this move will lead to positive changes in Ogun State’s approach to building regulations, ultimately benefiting its citizens and attracting more investments in the long run.
